The Southwest Minnesota Student Enrichment Fund is a designated fund of the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF). It is the funding resource used to support regional student enrichment activities designed to ensure that the youth of southwest Minnesota have access to high quality programs that enhance their learning experience, regardless of the size or location of their school district.
Current programs that have received support include: Knowledge Bowl, Young Authors’ Conference, Spelling Bee, Science & Nature Conference, Technical Skills Challenge, High School Career Exploration Days, Future City Competition and more.
One of the goals of the Student Enrichment Fund is to support the success of existing programs, as well as create new activities and make them accessible to all school districts. An example of this is the Culinary Skills Challenge, which began in 2005.
The Student Enrichment Fund began with a generous gift from The Schwan Food Company. Many other corporate and private donors, including the Southwest Initiative Foundation, have also supported the fund. As we look to the future, your support of this fund is welcomed and needed. For more information about how to make a gift, contact Mark Vaillancourt, SWIF development director, at (800) 594-9480 or markv@swifoundation.org
Funding Priorities:
The Student Enrichment Fund will support projects that provide students with the following experiences:
- The opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship, business and the global economy.
- Regional academic and non-athletic extra-curricular activities and competitions (arts, music, speech, drama, math and science) that are as challenging and accessible as possible.
- Opportunities for leadership and participation in areas of civic engagement and community or regional development.
- High caliber, cutting edge learning opportunities that give students distinct advantages in high demand career fields and the global marketplace.
