A strong, diverse economy that capitalizes on existing assets in the region is key to a bright and prosperous future for southwest Minnesota. For over 20 years, the Southwest Initiative Foundation has supported regional business growth by providing gap financing loans for new and expanding businesses.
Today, we have even more loan options available for entrepreneurs and communities to help sustain and grow businesses and accomplish community development projects, all of which translates into more opportunities for the people of southwest Minnesota.
Our loan programs, with the exception of the Micro-Enterprise Loan Program are administered by our partner, Prairieland Economic Development Corporation (Prairieland EDC). This partnership with Prairieland EDC creates a unique and winning relationship that brings together assets, regional relationships, and expertise to give business owners a wide array of financing options.
We have the following loan pools available:
Loan applicants are encouraged to contact us at an early stage in project development to discuss the feasibility of support for their projects. Loan program staff will endeavor to provide an indication of the project’s eligibility and to suggest factors which should be considered to maximize the potential for developing a viable proposal. Applicants for the Micro-Enterprise Loan Program should contact Berny Berger at (800) 594-9480 or bernyb@swifoundation.org. All other loan program applicants should contact Prairieland Economic Development Corporation at (800) 507-9003 or amy@prairielandedc.com.
